This program is exclusively for the CD-W54E with a firmware revision 1.0A. If you cannot agree with this agreement, press the Exit button to exit the program. It is recommended that you back-up important data and the system before executing this program. If you cannot agree with these precautions, do not execute this program. Do not use the system without restarting even after the update has completed normally. It is imperative that you restart the system immediately. 1. Operating environments PC-AT or its equivalent 2. Operating OSes Japanese or English version of the following OSes: Windows Me Windows 98 (including the Second Edition) Windows 95 OSR 2.0 or higher 3. Precautions in executing this program 3.1 This program does not operate when multiple CD-W54E drives are connected. Execute this program by connecting one at a time. 3.2 It may take some time to restart Windows after executing this program in some cases. 3.3 About the DMA setting This program does not operate when the DMA mode is enabled. Disable the DMA using the following procedures in order to update the firmware. (1) Select Setting-Control Panel by clicking the Start button. (2) Double-click the System icon in the Control Panel window. (3) Click the Device Manager tab in the System Property dialog. (4) Click + at the left of the CD-ROM icon to display the connected CD-ROM drives. Double-click the TEAC CD-W54E icon to display the property. (5) Click the Setting tab and uncheck the check mark in the [Option][DMA] check box. Close it by clicking the OK button. (6) Close System Property by clicking the OK button. (7) Restart Windows. * When another drive is connected to the same channel with the CD-W54E, you may not be able to disable the DMA setting. In that case, connect the CD-W54E drive alone to the secondary port as a master drive (do not connect any slave drive) and then follow the above instructions. 3-4. When the functions of some packet write software for CD-R/RW made by other makers are enabled, firmware update may not be executed normally. In that case, start this program after disabling the functions of the packet write software. 4. Operating procedure 4.1. Eject any media in the CD-W54E before executing the program. 4.2. The downloaded file (FWUPW54E02.EXE) is a self-extracting file. An FW_UP_54E folder will be created when this file is extracted. 4.3. Execute UpdaterW54E.exe in the FW_UP_W54E folder. Read carefully the Licensing Agreement displayed when the program is started. Press the Accept button if you agree. Press the Exit button to exit the program if you cannot agree. 4.4. The target drive will be displayed in the Target Drive list box. Read the precautions on the display carefully. Pressing the Update button displays the message dialog that prompts you to confirm again. Press Yes to update the firmware. Precaution: NEVER turn off the power of the PC or the drive while executing the program. Also do not end your OS forcibly, exit any tasks, eject or insert any media. Be sure to exit all applications before executing the program. 4.5. When the update of the firmware is normally terminated, a message is displayed to confirm if you want to restart the system. Be sure to press Yes and restart the system. (* It may take some time to restart.) When you continue to operate by exiting the program without restarting the system, the system may become very unstable and hang up. Therefore, be sure to restart the system.
