     Updater540E.exe is a program for updating the TEAC CD-540E firmware.

     Precaution: 
     Read carefully the Licensing Agreement displayed when 
     Updater540E.exe is executed. If you cannot agree with 
     this agreement, press the Cancel button to exit the 
     program.
     It is recommended that you back-up important data and 
     the system before executing this program.
     We assume no responsibility for any problems as a result 
     of using this program (details are provided in the Licensing 
     Agreement). If you cannot agree with these precautions, do 
     not execute this program.
     Do not use the system without restarting even after the update 
     has completed normally. It is imperative that you restart the 
     system immediately.

	Japanese or English version of the following OSes:
		  Windows 2000
		  Windows NT4.0 Service Pack 4 or lator
		  Windows 98
		  Windows 95 OSR 2.0 or lator (*)
		  
	(*) To the users of Windows 95
	When using this program in Windows 95 OSR 2.0 or later, 
	the following problem exists.

	If "Auto insert notification" is enabled, the system may hang 
	up immediately after this program updates the firmware.
        --------------------------------------------------------------
	Be sure to execute the program in accordance with the following 
	countermeasure steps.

        Disable the settings of "Auto insert notification" of the CD-540E 
        before executing this program. If you have a CD-ROM drive 
        (including CD-R/RW drive) daisy-chained to the CD-540E, be sure to 
        disable the "Auto insert notification" settings of the drive.
	Refer to the Windows Help, etc. for the method of setting 
	"Auto insert notification".
	After you are finished using this program, you may enable 
	"Auto insert notification".
		
3.  Operation procedures	

    3-1. Be sure to eject any media in the CD-540E before executing 
         the program.
	    
    3-2. The downloaded file (FWUP540E01.EXE) is a self-extracting 
         file. An FW_UP_540E folder will be created when this file is 
         extracted.
         
    3-3. Execute Updater540E.exe in the FW_UP_540E folder. Be sure to 
         read carefully the Licensing Agreement displayed when the 
         program is started. Press the Accept button if you agree. 
         Press [Exit] button to exit the program if you cannot agree.
         
    3-4. The target drive will be displayed in the Target Drive list 
         box. Read the precautions on the display carefully. Pressing 
         [Update] button displays the message dialog that prompts you 
         to confirm again. Press [Yes] to update the firmware.
	 
	 Precaution: 
	 While executing the program, never turn off the power of the 
	 PC or the drive, exit the OS forcedly, exit any task, nor 
	 insert/eject the media int/from the drive.
	 Be sure to exit all applications before executing the program.

    3-5. When the update of the firmware is normally terminated, 
         a message is displayed to confirm if you want to restart the 
         system. Be sure to press [Yes] to restart the system.
         When you continue to operate by exiting the program without 
         restarting the system, the system may become very unstable and
         hang up. Therefore, be sure to restart the system.
